Key takeaways

  • Cercedilla and El Escorial are different Cercanías branches; C-3a is an obsolete label.
  • Fast Segovia services use Chamartín and arrive at Segovia-Guiomar, requiring an onward trip to the centre.
  • Aranjuez uses Cercanías C-3; Manzanares el Real is reached by interurban bus 724.
  • The August 2026 storm, pool and works information is historical.

Choose the Destination and the Last Leg

These five trips suit different days: mountain walks at Cercedilla, Segovia's aqueduct and old town, the monastery at San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Aranjuez's palace and gardens, or the castle at Manzanares el Real. Each is reachable without a car, but allow for the journey beyond the station.

The original August 2026 storm warning, pool season and engineering works are historical. The earlier wildfire figures and route-clearance claims could not be reconstructed reliably and have been withdrawn. Use current operator, destination and weather notices before travelling.

Cercedilla: Mountains and Seasonal Pools

Use the Cercanías Cercedilla branch, shown as C-8b in the summer timetable. Check the service and journey time for your departure station; the earlier 50-minute Atocha estimate was not verified.

Las Berceas is uphill from the station at Carretera de la Fuenfría, M-966 km 3.9. Plan that final leg separately. The municipal pool and shuttle pages describe seasonal services; the opening page was inaccessible during this review, so the earlier 2026 prices, closing date and shuttle end date are no longer presented as a usable plan.

Segovia: Chamartín and an Onward Transfer

Fast services leave Madrid Chamartín for Segovia-Guiomar. This is a separate ticket from Cercanías; compare the actual departure and fare through Renfe rather than relying on the earlier advance-price estimates.

Guiomar is outside the old town. Check the urban bus operator's current station connections or allow for a taxi. The municipal and bus links cited in the original guide were inaccessible during the access check, so their route numbers and journey times remain unverified.

El Escorial: The Monastery

Use the El Escorial branch, C-8a, and check the through service or transfer needed from your starting station. CRTM removed the C-3a label in 2024; the old route description through Sol should not be used.

El Escorial station and the monastery in San Lorenzo de El Escorial are separate stops in your day. Check the onward walk or local bus and the monastery's ticket and opening arrangements before choosing a train.

Aranjuez: Palace and Gardens

Cercanías C-3 connects Madrid with Aranjuez. Use the date-specific timetable and zone-based fare, then allow time to reach the palace and riverside gardens from the station.

For a palace visit, check its admission and opening arrangements; a train ticket is not a reservation for the attraction.

Manzanares el Real: A Bus Trip

There is no Cercanías station in Manzanares el Real. Interurban bus 724 runs from Plaza de Castilla towards Manzanares and El Boalo. Use CRTM's route page for the stop, timetable and return service.

The castle and La Pedriza offer different plans. For a walk in the national park, check the particular trail, access restrictions and weather rather than treating a bus journey as proof that a mountain route is open.

Tickets and Conditions

Cercanías fares depend on zones and ticket type; Segovia's fast services use a separate booking. Check the total journey in both directions, including the final connection, before buying attraction tickets.

For any outdoor plan, use the current AEMET forecast. An archived August warning does not describe today's weather.

Main tradeoffs

  • A rail or bus ticket gets you to the destination's station or stop; the pool, monastery or old town can require a further journey.
